About suffering, they were never wrong, The Old Masters; how well, they understood…”         W.H. Auden

Ripeness Twice Over, is a solo exhibition of work by Stephen Burt.

Flaunting his dedication to the art of drawing, his wry sense of irony and fearless sense of truth-telling shines forth. Burt's ability to take what we have seen in the past, shine a light on it in such a way, as to catch a glimpse of his own take on allegory and the world as he sees it, in all its twisted glory. Through his deep knowledge of art history he is able to draw a future pulled from the past that is both confounding in its beauty, yet eerily prescient.

His subjects seem to volley between insects & plants (real and imagined), the human form, and the Maelstrom of visceral and beautiful life. Stephen has been concocting storms, almost as a habit and cartharsis from the daily onslaught of information. Who is to say what is real or real fake after all?

Stephen's statement about his prints in the series Flowers for the Age of Iron:

"The images are intended to evolve in the imagination over time with the viewer rewarded for contemplative observation. To try and outline each inspiration and relationship as it occurred would not be either possible or prudent…The flowers whether imaginary or real, were intended to highlight the narrative contained within."
